Smash Karts is a multiplayer action racing game that takes you to a crazy world of kart battles. Players need to move around an arena while racing to grab weapons and fight.

There’s a certain kind of fun to the game: on the outside it appears cartoony and whimsical, but once you get in a match you realize just how really wild it can be. Rockets fly in every direction, mines are scattered in every area, and there are occasions where you get quickly blasted from behind by a rocket the moment you respawn.

How to Play Smash Karts

In each race, participants control a kart and drive across the map, trying to knock off as many of their opponents as they can before time runs out. Karts don’t come armed out of the box, so if you want to fight, you’ll have to race to grab a random power-up from item boxes marked with a question mark.

There are situations where you only pick up rockets and may play a very aggressive game. Other times you’ll end up with mines or machine guns and have to go in close.

Racing's Only Half the Game

Driving quickly is the only way to get destroyed quicker. Smash Karts is a lot more about combat than good old speed racing.

You’ll need to keep looking around, predicting where your enemies will go, then firing your weapons. A lot of victories are not gained by good drifting, but simply by putting a mine in a corner and waiting for an unsuspecting opponent to drive right into it.

An Arsenal Built for Maximum Chaos

There are also a whole bunch of different weapons, such as rockets, machine guns, mines and even mini-nuclear missiles. Some of the devices are simple to use while others need to be aimed correctly to be effective.

Perhaps the most annoying thing is when someone activates an invincible power-up and runs right into the centre of a crowd. There's little you can do but dodge actually, as touching them means an instant explosion.

Unlock & Upgrade Characters

After every match, players collect XP to level up and unlock more cosmetics. This advancement mechanism isn’t overbearing in terms of grind, but it does provide you just enough motivation to want to stay around and play one more match. The game has a good amount of funny character skins, from racers with silly headgear to karts that have a genuinely comedic look.

Some Tips for Playing Smash Karts

  • Don’t stand still for too long, there’s virtually always a rocket coming your way.
  • If the weapons you have aren't right for the circumstance, stick near to item boxes and change weapons often.
  • Mines work much better when they are in blind spots, particularly near corners.
  • If you have a pack of enemies on your tail, preserve your boost to get away quickly and not spend it.
  • Everyone flocks to the crowded regions which makes them perfect for piling up kills but also the most likely place to get killed yourself.

Smash Karts isn’t trying to be a serious racing game. It's a much more jolly anarchy, the kind of game you dive into for a few quick, fun matches. The game always feels energetic and chaotic, especially when you’re playing with buddies, thanks to the high speed, varied armament and unpredictable online encounters.

And if you’re in the mood for a humorous competitive game that’s less about driving mechanics and more about comical fights, you might want to check out Boxing Random, which delivers an equally chaotic type of action.
