Karate Bros is a 1v1 karate-themed fighting game. You pick a fighter and fight against an opponent in 1 on 1 battles. Each character has their own stats for weight, height, speed and defense; these four stats affect how the fighter moves and takes damage when in the match.
The gameplay is simple but it requires a quick reaction. You have to watch your opponent, measure the timing of your attacks and find openings to dodge incoming attacks.
When you first start playing, you can choose between Miyagi and Chuck Norris. The two characters are unlocked for free from the beginning, but other fighters have to be unlocked by playing.
Each character has different stat. Weight is about physique, height is about stature, speed is about movement and pace of action, and defense is about ability to take hits.
Karate Bros features a character outfit system. Belt color corresponds to the player's level; the white belt is the default starting gear. Shirts, pants, and shoes come in various colors, allowing you to customize each item to create a unique look for your fighter.
The Elbow strike is performed when the character moves backward; press the attack key while retreating to execute it. This skill provides an additional offensive option for close-quarters combat.
The Duck Punch allows the fighter to throw a punch while crouching; press the attack key while in a crouching stance to perform it. This move combines a stance shift with an attack, adding variety to your offensive options.
The Jump Kick allows the character to deliver a kick while airborne. Press the attack key while your character is airborne to execute this skill.
The Front Kick is performed while standing still. Press the attack key to deliver a straight kick forward; this move is ideal when an opponent is directly in front of you.
The Backward Dodge allows the fighter to quickly retreat from their current position. Press the back key twice in rapid succession to perform this dodge. This skill is useful when an opponent is closing in or preparing to attack. Proper movement also creates space for you to set up your next move.
Two-player mode uses separate controls for each character. Player 1 uses W, A, S, and D to move and G to attack. Player 2 uses the arrow keys to move and L to attack.
After intense karate matches, you can switch to exploring the city and completing missions in City Hero.
