Wave Rider is the kind of game that looks easy at first glance, but after a few minutes you'll realize it's not as relaxing as it seems. You stand on a surfboard (or jet ski), ride the waves, and try to go as far as possible. It sounds simple, but the terrain in this game is anything but gentle; obstacles are scattered everywhere, and a slight misstep will end your game instantly.

How to play Wave Rider

Basically, you control the surfboard to move with the waves, dodge obstacles, and collect starfish. Every collision is a disaster; there's no chance to correct mistakes midway.

At first, the pace is slow and manageable. But the further you go, the faster the pace of the game becomes, the waves get faster, the space gets smaller, and your reflexes need to be more precise. There are sections where you have to make rapid decisions: dodge or risk getting more starfish. And often… greed comes at a price.

Controls are also very simple: use the arrow keys or WASD to glide sideways, timing your movements to avoid or overcome difficult terrain.

Wave Rider Features

Increasingly Fast Endless Gameplay

Endless runner games aren't new, but Wave Rider excels at balanced acceleration. It doesn't have the frustrating sudden bursts of speed, but rather a steady, gradual increase, enough to make you feel like you're getting tired over time.

Diverse Obstacle System

Not just simple rocks or logs. You'll encounter everything from water holes, small waterfalls, embankments, and even sections where you have to carefully time your maneuvers to squeeze through. Some things look simple to dodge, but a slightly off-center collision angle will still result in defeat.

Unlock Surfboards and Jet Skis

Collected starfish are used to unlock new types of surfboards. Not all of them offer significantly different gameplay, but they provide a sense of purpose to keep playing. And honestly, sometimes you'll play a few more rounds just to change skins.

Wave Rider is a fast-paced, entertaining game: easy to play, hard to maintain, and always a reason to try again. If you're looking for a light game that's still challenging enough not to get bored after 5 minutes, this is a pretty excellent option. If you want a change of pace and something a bit more chaotic and fun, you can try Sausage Battle, where things are not only fast but also… a little crazy.
